Mercer seemed to recall something the next moment. He let go of Calla’s hand, stormed over to the couch, and grabbed Calla’s bag before fishing out her phone.
“What are you doing with my phone?” Calla asked, unsure of Mercer’s intentions. She moved to snatch it back.
Mercer raised his arm, making it impossible for Calla to reach the phone.
After a brief struggle, she realized she couldn’t get it back no matter what. Knowing there were no secrets on her phone, she crossed her arms over her chest and sat on the couch, deciding not to fight.
However, her initial attempt to take the phone made Mercer even more suspicious. He opened the phone, first checking the messages and then the call log.
When he saw the call log, Mercer’s expression grew darker. He held the phone to Calla’s face, demanding, “What’s this?”
Calla glanced dismissively at the call log. It showed Harlan’s name. There were five or six calls between them over the past few days.
Knowing Mercer was jumping to conclusions again, she spat irritably, “Mercer, haven’t you had enough? Can’t I have friends?”
“He’s always been interested in you, and you know that. You’ve been talking to him often while I’m away from Riverford. What’s going on? Have you been seeing him all along, or did things just rekindle over the past few days?”
Mercer’s anger surged as he threw the phone, which hit the wall with a loud crack and fell to the floor.
Calla was furious upon seeing her phone broken into pieces on the floor. She reached out to hit him.” Mercer, you’re just making baseless accusations!”
Mercer let Calla’s smaller fists pound against his chest
When she finally wore herself out, he didn’t try to restrain her; instead, he suddenly bent down and scooped her up in his arms!
“What are you doing? Put me down right now! Do you hear me?” Suddenly lifted off the ground, Calla grabbed onto Mercer’s collar in a panic. She didn’t know what his intentions were.
Ignoring her protests, Mercer turned and headed for the door.
Jasmine quickly followed. “Mr. Garland, where are you taking Mrs. Garland?”
“Pack–up her daily essentials. Someone will come to get you shortly,” Mercer ordered, striding out the door with Calla in his arms.
Only a bewildered Jasmine was left behind.
“Mercer, what are you doing? Put me down!”
Mercer remained unfazed while Calla’s shouts continued, attracting curious glances from passersby.
When they reached the garage, Simon was already waiting, albeit with a slight look of surprise. He quickly

opened the back door of the car.
Mercer gently placed Calla in the back seat before getting in himself.
Now free, Calla tried to open the car door, only to find it locked. No matter how hard she tried, it wouldn’t budge.
By this time, Simon had gotten into the car and started driving out of the neighborhood.
Realizing she couldn’t get out, Calla turned to Mercer who sat opposite her, and demanded angrily,” Where are you taking me?”
“You’ll find out soon enough,” Mercer replied, expressionless.
In her frustration, Calla smacked the car window, only to hurt her fingers against the hard glass. She winced and drew in a sharp breath.
