Madison tried hard to restrain her anger, turned around, and smiled at Alison. “Miss Conner, long time no see.”
Alison approached gracefully and said, “Miss Guzman, you don’t seem to be doing well. Even a dog can get through this. door. Three years of marriage to Neville, why can’t you manage the same?”
Madison smiled. “Can’t argue. Some people do lack manners”
Alison could sense that Madison was indirectly insulting her and replied, “Surprising, Miss Guzman. Three years and you’ve lost your elegance.”
Madison retorted. “And you, not as decent as before. Still trying to seduce him even knowing Neville’s a married man.”
Alison remained unfazed and held up the thermos, saying, “Neville has been busy since yesterday. He probably hasn’t eaten. I specially made a meal for him. If you have something to discuss with him, maybe after his lunch.”
Alison was boasting about her intimacy with Neville.
Madison gave her a cold glance and said with a half–smile, “Alison, I pity you. I had you pegged as competent, but after three years of waiting, you can only do such coarse work to please him.”
Alison’s face turned slightly grim. “It’s all because you took my place!” she roared..
“Well, if Neville really wanted to marry you, why make you wait for three years?”
Madison’s words pierced through Alison’s heart like a cold knife, making her stagger.
Worried that she might reveal a hint of embarrassment when facing Neville, something she definitely couldn’t let Alison see, Madison said, I’ll bring in your meal. You can go back, Miss Conner.”
Madison took a deep breath and pushed open the office door.
Inside, Neville was discussing something with Bernard Peay, his assistant.
Neville was dignified, handsome, and diplomatic, and many noble women in Norxton coveted him.
But little did anyone know that behind his charm hid a rather cold heart. Even his eyes exuded a perpetual aura of aggression and sharpness, causing undue fear in others.

Leaning slightly over the desk, Madison locked eyes with him. “Sign it, and I’m out of your life.”
They were so close that her rose scent filled Neville’s senses.
Only then did Neville notice that Madison seemed to have dressed up carefully today.
The dress outlined her figure beautifully, revealing her slender waist.
She had put on light makeup, adding a touch of s**iness to her mind. However, her face remained pale, as if she had experienced a disaster.

Madison sneered at his reply. She unscrewed the thermos and threw the meal at him. She didn’t know why Neville was só firm that she was destined to him only.
Neville, who was a neat freak but covered in greasy soup, showed a trace of ferocity. “Have you gone mad?”
With red eyes, Madison held back her anger and said, “Yes, I was mad back then to marry you. Good thing I’ve finally come to my senses. So, sign it and let’s separate our ways, never to cross paths again.”
Neville shot a cold glance at her as he signed his name on the divorce agreements. “Fuck off!”
Madison picked up one of the copies nonchalantly. “Remember to go to the city hall at nine tomorrow.”
On her way out, she paused at the door and turned back. There’s something I must explain. The guy I bumped into yesterday is a friend, not a lover.
-Neville sneered, “Ross is a notorious playboy in Norxton. And you call him a friend?”

A sarcastic smirk played on Madison’s lips. Everyone in Norton seemed determined to box her into this stereotype of a country girl- illiterate and rude.
Neville’s friends were no different, convinced she wed him purely for his status and fortune. They saw her kidney donation to Neville as a desperate play to keep him by her side.
Despite Madison’s attempts to explain herself, they dismissed her words as mere jest. In their eyes, Madison was labeled as the damsel in distress with dubious motives for being with Neville. They were sympathetic on the surface yet doubtful of her potential deep down.
Madison said, “Neville, the Madison who loved you so much without any dignity and was even willing to die for you is gone. And you killed her!”
Suppressing her sadness, Madison turned and left, every step seeming determined and resolute.
Neville watched her departing figure, unable to recover for a while.
He thought that Madison had been acting strange since yesterday.
She suddenly wanted to divorce, which she would never think about in the past.
Bernard had already brought Neville clean clothes. He asked hesitantly, “Mr. Preston, is Miss Guzman really divorcing you?”
“Just a trick to scare me,” Neville said.
He dared to say that after tonight, Madison would definitely cry and beg for his forgiveness.
“But I feel like she is really determined this time,” Bernard said.

Their newfound status owed much to Neville, and as a result, they began to shower Madison with flattery. Even if Madison desired a divorce, she had to consider whether the Guzman family wanted to sever their ties with Neville.
Throughout their three–year marriage, Neville treated Madison like a prized possession, never a hint of ill–treatment. She was pampered with the finest food, high–end fashion, and a generous monthly allowance of 100 thousand dollars. Neville doubted that Madison would willingly give up this life of luxury.
After all, those who had once enjoyed luxurious life didn’t bear to live indecently.
Bernard asked. “And your schedule for tomorrow?”
“As usual,” Neville said.
Neville brushed off the idea of divorce as a mere charade, nonchalantly discarding the divorce agreement into the trash can.
He believed Madison was merely acting out because he didn’t spend the night at home yesterday. He’d simply go home later and smooth things over with her. She had made a scene like this before anyway.
